And the winner is...

Congratulations to our Shore Service Unit Patch Program Design Winner - Brianna S. of SLH Troop 546. Brianna won a $20 gift certificate to Council. She will also receive a special certificate and recognition at Thinking Day. Brianna's lovely Custom Designed Patch was distributed at our January 17th Leader's Meeting. There will be one patch given to each registered Shore Service Unit Scout. Then the earning begins! Each Scout is able to earn "rockers" - a program will be in place to earn a rocker from each town/section of our Service Unit.

TROOP LEADER INFORMATION
BASE PATCH:
Introducing for the first year - a Shore Service Unit Patch! A base patch design contest is being offered to all girls of the Shore Service Unit. Entries are due at our December 6th, 2007 Leader’s Meeting. At that meeting the Leaders in attendance will select the winner. Winner will receive recognition at Thinking Day and a gift certificate. The patch design submitted may be modified as necessary to accommodate the limitations of the patch creation process. The purchase of this new patch will be funded from Shore Service Funds. It is to be sewn onto the back of the vest/sash. The base patch is scheduled to be distributed to the Leaders at our January 17th, 2008 Leader’s Meeting. The Leaders will need to get one to each Shore Service Unit Registered Scout. Please copy and distribute the attached flyer to all of your Scouts from Daisy to Senior! Make a troop meeting out of this patch design activity and make sure the patch design embodies our work thru the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore - Shore Service Unit. Information also located: http://www.shoreserviceunit.org/patch_program.htm

ROCKER PROGRAMS:
Each of the seven sections of the Shore Service Unit (Brielle, Manasquan, St. Denis, Sea Girt, Spring Lake, St. Catharines and Spring Lake Heights) will develop a rocker program that the girls can begin working on after receipt of their base patch on January 17th. This rocker will be a simple image associated with your program and the town/section name. The rocker program for your town is due December 6th through the Town Organizer. Please pick a theme and build requirements that the girls can choose from to learn about the theme. Select activities/service project built around that common theme - try to keep it as “local” as possible. The Town Organizer will be responsible for collecting finished rockers, checking the requirements and awarding them at our Leader’s Meetings. We will invite the girls (along with an Adult Partner) who complete a rocker(s) to our March and April Leader’s Meetings to receive their patch(es). A sample rocker program is listed on the reverse side of this paper - blanks are posted on our web site as well as the finished programs as available. Other suggestions: the “boardwalk”, lighthouses, local service projects, food drives, pets, local history, Girl Scouting in this area, etc. This program will be on going - we will see how it goes as to how we may want to continue/further develop in future years. Make it fun and incorporate into your year’s program!
